Why Claire Bought a Second One

Claire didn't set out to become someone who owns two silk pillowcases. She bought the first one as something of a gift to herself after a difficult few months. She wasn't expecting much. She just wanted something small and nice. Eight weeks later, she bought a second one. This is her story.

Claire

Age: 29
Occupation: Physiotherapist
Location: United Kingdom
Claire works long shifts. By the time she gets home, she's usually tired enough that the quality of her sleep matters more than most things.
She doesn't buy a lot of things for herself. When she does, she tends to buy things she'll actually use.
She's not particularly interested in skincare products or wellness trends. But she does care about her hair. She has naturally curly hair that she's been managing carefully for years, and she's always looking for small ways to reduce friction and breakage.

Why She Started Looking at Silk

She'd read somewhere — she can't remember where — that silk pillowcases cause less friction than cotton, which can help reduce hair breakage overnight.
She was cautious about that kind of claim. She'd seen too many products promise too much.
But the logic made sense to her. Less friction on the hair while sleeping seemed straightforward enough. And a pillowcase wasn't a significant investment if it didn't work.
She spent about an hour reading up on silk quality — what momme weight meant, the difference between charmeuse and other weaves — before deciding on a 22 momme mulberry silk pillowcase.
She bought one, told herself she'd give it a proper trial, and went back to her regular routine.

The First Impression

The first thing she noticed wasn't her hair.
It was the feel of the fabric when she got into bed.
She hadn't expected to care about that. She'd bought the pillowcase for a practical reason, and she'd assumed it would either work or it wouldn't.
But that first night, she found herself paying attention to the texture in a way she hadn't anticipated. It was smooth in a way that felt different from anything she'd slept on before.
She liked it more than she expected to.

After Using It for a While

After six weeks, she noticed her hair felt easier to manage in the mornings.
She was careful about drawing conclusions. She hadn't changed anything else in her routine during that time, which she thought was important. But she was also aware that one variable isn't a controlled experiment.
Still. Her hair was behaving better. And she was sleeping on a silk pillowcase. It wasn't unreasonable to connect the two.
What she didn't expect was how much she'd come to appreciate the pillowcase for its own sake.
She'd started looking forward to getting into bed in a simple, uncomplicated way.
That's when she decided to buy a second one, so she'd always have a clean one ready while the other was being washed.

What She Liked

The texture. She genuinely enjoys sleeping on it. That wasn't something she anticipated when she bought it.
Her hair. She noticed a difference. She's careful not to overstate it, but the difference has been consistent enough that she's kept using it.
The look. It's understated. It fits into her bedroom without drawing attention to itself, which is what she wanted.

One Thing She Had to Get Used To

She had to learn how to wash it properly.
She'd assumed she could just use a delicate cycle and be done with it. The first time she washed it, she was a little more nervous than she expected to be.
Once she got the hang of it — cool water, gentle detergent, laid flat to dry — it became automatic. She now washes both pillowcases on the same day and rotates them through the week.

Her Take

When we asked what made her decide to buy a second one, she was straightforward about it. "I didn't want to wait for it to come out of the wash. That was basically it."
And on whether she'd recommend silk to someone who was on the fence: "I'd say try it for a month and see. I was skeptical at first. Now I have two."

Our Take

What we find interesting about Claire's experience is how her reasons for appreciating the pillowcase shifted over time.
She bought it for her hair. She stayed for the feel.
That's something we hear fairly often. People come to silk for one reason — hair, skin, temperature — and end up appreciating it for several reasons they hadn't considered.
It's a product that rewards actually using it.

The Product She Chose

She chose our 22 momme mulberry silk pillowcase with an envelope closure — and came back for a second one eight weeks later.
